Accessibility

Advancing equity is a priority of the university strategic plan. Equity ensures everyone has fair access to and use of all available information, opportunities and resources without bias or discrimination. This extends to digital spaces.

The MSU Accessibility Policy applies to every webpage used to conduct core university business and academic activities. MSU adheres to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 Level AA standard.

Best Practices

  • Use free accessibility checkers such as WAVE (see Accessibility Impact, or AIM, Report).
  • Test color contrast ratios using tools like WebAIM’s Color Contrast Checker.
  • Ensure that the website, and particularly its main navigation, can be navigated using only the keyboard.
  • Use browser developer tools, such as built-in tools and plugins that can test code, accessibility, color contrast and more.

Website Review Checklists

Perk of using Sitecore: As an enterprise CMS, any websites built using Sitecore XM Cloud using component library elements will be in adherence with technical requirements for accessibility standards. Content accessibility (e.g., color contrast on images) is up to the persons creating and updating the website content.
