Best Practices & News

Meta may soon limit FB pages to two links per month without a paid plan: Facebook is testing a limit on how often pages can include external links in organic posts and comments. The limit may not apply to all pages and could vary by subscription plan.

Instagram lets users add tagged posts to their profile grids: You can now add posts your tagged in directly to your main profile grid, creating another opportunity for collaboration and cross-promotion. Tagged posts will appear with a tag icon on the profile.

TikTok introduces new teen app usage restrictions: Teen users in Alabama will be limited to two hours of daily use, with access restricted from midnight to 6 a.m. and notifications paused during school hours. Similar restrictions are being considered in other states.

X shares more insight into post reach: X is expanding its “Under the Hood” report to show when posts or accounts have had their visibility limited due to local laws or other restrictions. The update is available to accounts that are at least one year old and have posted more than 10 times in the previous month.

TikTok adds new ways to respond to videos: Users can now reply to videos with voice messages, polls and photo carousels, giving creators and audiences more ways to interact in the comments.

Four New Content Ideas to Try

  1. Where are you?: Add this text conversation hook over your next video or photo carousel to grab audiences attention! Someone asks where you are, you say “home,” and the reveal is a place that actually feels like home to you, whether that’s East Lansing or a favorite spot on campus.
  2. "That’s so you:" Use this hook and carousel format to showcase the people, places and things that make your brand uniquely you. It’s a fun way to highlight niche or unexpected details your audience may not know about, while giving them something to connect with.
  3. Definition Graphics: Give your audience the inside scoop on words and phrases tied to your brand or community. Think of phrases your audience uses and turn them into definitions your followers can easily understand and share in a carousel.
  4. Seasonal Montages With A Hook: People yearn for fall! Pair campus moments with seasonal hooks like “when life starts to feel like this again” or “nothing compares to your first fall semester.” Showcase your buildings, spaces and everyday moments to capture the feeling of the season and spark campus nostalgia.

Two Accounts to Watch

We all need inspiration. Here are a few accounts that may spark new ideas. 💡

  1. WHAT'S YOUR PROCESS?:A must-follow for a masterclass in people-focused storytelling. The beloved social series gives audiences a peek behind the scenes of how people do their jobs, from unexpected careers to unique day-to-day responsibilities. We love how it turns simple conversations into engaging content that makes you want to learn more.
  2. Impact: Impact has a knack for turning big, complex topics into social content that is easy to digest and hard to scroll past. We love how they use bold graphics, Gen Z-focused carousels and timely commentary to make important topics feel engaging and approachable.

What We're Reading

What are other colleges actually keeping in their Instagram Story Highlights?

MeetYourClass took a look at the IG Highlights across 500 higher ed accounts and found some pretty interesting trends. If you’re wondering what belongs under the bio and what’s worth keeping updated, check out their report for some ideas to fine-tune your IG Stories strategy.

Quick Tip

Give your Reels a stronger hook.

Instagram recommends using text overlays to highlight key details or grab attention from the first second. Just remember that text overlays and captions serve different purposes, so use both when they make sense. For more Reels creation tips, check out Instagram’s updated guide to elevate your next video post.

Food for Thought

Going viral isn’t always about being first.  IKEA has a team dedicated to creating quick, culturally relevant content, but their approach isn’t about jumping on every trend. They use a cultural calendar and a simple checklist to decide what’s worth responding to, including whether they can bring a genuinely original angle to the conversation.

For our own social content, it’s a good reminder that being responsive doesn’t mean reacting to everything. The strongest trend-driven content should feel natural to the brand and have a clear reason for joining the conversation.

Campus Shout-Out

We loved  Healthy Spartans, "Game Day isn't over until..." carousel, which highlighted ways to safely get home on game day and look out for your fellow Spartans. The campus imagery, stats and swipe-through format kept audiences engaged while sharing useful information with students.
