Backend Tags

Backend Tags

Backend Tags are not visible to website visitors but can be used to control the visitor experience, such as aiding in search results or in prefiltered data listings. Backend Tags are site-specific and are shared across News, Events and People Directory features. 

Example use cases include tagging particular outreach program names or the name of an event series. 

Template Data

Value (single-line text)

  • Required field.
  • Text appears as the name of the Backend Tag.
  • This label can be used to match search queries on News, Events and People Listing pages, but it will not appear as a front-end data filter.

Inactive (checkbox)

  • If checked, this tag is no longer available for use. 

Instructions for Use

In Content Editor:

  1. Expand the MSU node, the website node and the Data folder. 
  2. Right click on Backend Tags.
  3. Click Insert and Tag.
  4. Enter a name for the Backend Tag item and click OK.
  5. Enter a value for the Backend Tag.
  6. Click Save.

In Content Editor:

  1. Expand the MSU node, the website node and the Data folder. 
  2. Expand Backend Tags folder.
  3. Locate the specific tag to be edited and click to select.
  4. Update the label value, as needed.
  5. Click Save.

In Content Editor:

  1. Expand the MSU node, the website node and the Data folder. 
  2. Expand Backend Tags folder.
  3. Locate the specific tag to be edited and click to select.
  4. Check Inactive.
  5. Click Save.

In Content Editor:

  1. Navigate to and select the story page in the Content Tree.
  2. Scroll to the Unit Taxonomies section of the data template and find the Backend Tags tag set. 
  3. Click on a tag in the left “All” column to select it.
  4. Click the > icon next to the tags list to move the selected tag to the right “Selected” column.
  5. Repeat as needed.
  6. To remove a tag, click the tag in the right “Selected” column and click the < icon to move it back to the left “All” column.

In Content Editor:

  1. Navigate to and select the event details page in the Content Tree.
  2. Scroll to the Event Tagging section of the data template and find the Backend Tags tag set. 
  3. Click on a tag in the left “All” column to select it.
  4. Click the > icon next to the tags list to move the selected tag to the right “Selected” column.
  5. Repeat as needed.
  6. To remove a tag, click the tag in the right “Selected” column and click the < icon to move it back to the left “All” column.

In Content Editor:

  1. Navigate to and select the person details page in the Content Tree.
  2. Scroll to the Tagging section of the data template and find the Backend Tags tag set. 
  3. Click on a tag in the left “All” column to select it.
  4. Click the > icon next to the tags list to move the selected tag to the right “Selected” column.
  5. Repeat as needed.
  6. To remove a tag, click the tag in the right “Selected” column and click the < icon to move it back to the left “All” column.
